The sixth surface of design, False Ceiling

Right from the ancient time ceiling has played an important role in architecture designs worldwide. From religious places like catholic churches to palaces, ceiling has been used as a decorative tool as it provides a large and uncluttered surface. In modern time with availability of new material false ceiling is used to increase aesthetics and to hide wiring and ducts.
A false ceiling is actually a secondary ceiling that hangs below the main ceiling to increase the interior beauty of the room. False ceiling material is fixed either hanging from the primary ceiling or between the frames connecting walls and panels. The false ceiling should be constructed in accordance with the height of the beam and AC duct. It can also be constructed at different levels in places where there is no beam or duct.
Different types of materials are used for the construction of false ceiling. Plaster of Paris was the most common material used for the construction of false ceiling. Now gypsum is the most popular material used. It is also used in combination with wood, plywood, veneer etc. The new trend in this area is the use of laminated sheet.
