THE COLOUR THEORY

Colours can play a very important role in deciding the mood of an interior. Basically I rely on the Munsell’s colour wheel for finding out both, the complimentary and the harmonious colours . Any color has three characteristics i.e. Chroma, Hue and value. Chroma is essentially the color saturation i.e. how much of that pigment is mixed in say a liter of colour, the more the pigment, the more its chroma(Purity). Value is a colour’s whiteness or blackness. It can theoretically vary from white(10) to black (0). Higher the value, Higher the reflectivity of light.
There are five primary hues. Red, Yellow, Green , Blue and Purple. These are sub divided in to 5 more secondary hues thus giving a total of 10 sub divisions. Any shade card further divides these in to 10 more sub divisions giving a total of 100 sub hues. Most of the shade cards are designed very scientifically.
