‘Catenary compression’ was originally developed by Boston-based architectural studio NADAAA as a rese-arch project — pairing up unlikely structural properties to work together for extraordinary circumstances.

Matter Design has produced an intimate and contradictory set of experiences in Microtherme. Upon approach, the occupant is confronted by a hovering wooden mass punctured by a singular and limited port enticing curiosity about the interior. Once under the wooden mass, a concrete world is revealed and rend-ered elastically.

The Elytra Filament Pavilion celebrates a truly integrative approach to design and engineering. As a centerpiece of the V&A’s Engineering Season it demonstrates how architectural design can unfold from a synergy of structural engineering, environmental engineering and production engineering, resulting in unique spatial and aesthetic qualities.

Supermanoeuvre in collaboration with Scott Carver, structural engineers Bollinger Grohmann and environ-mental specialists Atelier 10 were awarded runner-up in the open architecture competition to design the new Frankston train station in Victoria, Australia.
